Heart and Yoga

Modern science is showing that the human heart creates the single most powerful electrical field in the human body, about 60-100 times more powerful than the human brain. Science says that the human heart is 5,000 times stronger than the human brain. I find this very helpful in my journey. I have worked with a Shaman for nearly 8 years and she teaches the same golden rule, “To think from your heart not from the head” one of the most profound things she said to me was, “The longest distance you will travel in your lifetime is from your head to your heart”. My jaw dropped, I immediately felt that in my heart. I realized I was in the company of yet another radiant teacher in my life. For example, if you think about the heart for a moment and the different things we experience in life with our hearts, when you experience heartbreak, the chest becomes heavy and of course this is where the heart resides. When you think about stress or when you encounter a stressful situation, the brain releases adrenaline into your system to help you either fight or flee the threat. This causes your heart to beat faster and your blood pressure to increase. This you also feel in the chest. It’s no wonder Living in a constant state of stress weakens your cardiovascular system.
So what are we to do? I know, YOGA.

Try this:
Sit in a comfortable cross-legged seated position where your posture is extended, meaning you are sitting straight up. If you have to use a chair, do so with legs uncrossed and feet on the floor. Root down through the base of the spine imagining a connection to mother earth, then scan through the spinal column up through the crown chakra into infinity and beyond. Now imagine you are the conduit and part of this oneness (because you are). Begin breathing through the nasal passage fluidly and at a comfortable pace. Inhale count of 4 and exhale count of 4, soften your thoughts, open your heart and you have just begun your very own science experiment.
